The Butler Golden Tornado scored the game-winning goal with 57 seconds remaining in double overtime to edge the North Allegheny girls’ soccer team on Wednesday night, 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, North Allegheny dominated the pace of play in the second half and outshot Butler 10-1. Despite that advantage, Butler struck first for a 1-0 lead just 2:40 into the half. North Allegheny answered back just 40 seconds later when Sarah Schupansky scored on a long-range shot from 25-yards out to even the score at 1-1.
Butler had the better of the scoring opportunities in overtime, holding a 4-1 shot advantage and ultimately scored the game winner to claim the Section 1-AAAA win.
With the outcome, North Allegheny slips to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in section play. Butler improves to 4-2-1 on the season and 3-2 in the section.
