Tigers Top Hampton Talbots 3-2 in Season Opener

The North Allegheny Tigers were able to deliver a victory in their first regular season match vs. Hampton.

The Tigers were able to control the ball for the majority of the first half which led to a significant advantage in shots on goal, NA 7 to 1 for Hampton and NA corner kicks 5 to 1.

The pressure the Tigers put on Hampton’s defense was spread out evenly with 6 different Tigers recording shots on goal.  The lone shot by Talbots came in the closing minutes of the first half when Madison Vukasmade a diving save to hold the score at 0-0 at halftime.

While there wasn’t much scoring action in the first half, that all changed in the 2nd half with 4 goals being scored in 9 minutes.  Emma Bundy led off the scoring by turning a defender just outside of the 18 yard box and firing a long range shot with her left foot past the Hampton keeper with only 7 minutes gone by in the half.  But less than 5 minutes later, North Allegheny was called for a foul in the box and Hampton tied the game 1-1 with a penalty kick.  Just 3 minutes after Hampton tied the game, the Tigers struck again with this time Bundy having the assist to Alex Adams who took a ball that was crossed from the wing and shot the ball into the net.  Then just two minutes after the Tigers 2nd goal, Isabella Pietropola made it 3-1 by shooting the ball top shelf past the Hampton keeper after a nice give and go passing combination between her and Bundy.

Hampton was able to close the gap with another goal to make it 3-2.  With the game being held in the balance with NA only having a one goal game, Hampton was able to get behind the NA defense, but Juliana Wernerwas able to making a diving stop on the Hampton forward who was coming in one on one to hold the Talbots off.  In the end, the North Allegheny defense held strong and the Tigers secured a 3-2 victory at Hampton.

Up next for the Tigers is a significant section match vs. rivals, Pine Richland.  Pine Richland will be looking to even the score with North Allegheny, after the Tigers stunned the Rams 2-0 in the WPIAL Quarterfinals.

The game is this coming Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm at Pine Richland.
